PAST AUCTIONS
Every year the The Somcan Foundation holds a charitable events to benefit its programs and services in communities across the Ontario. From silent auctions to golf tournaments, Anyone can support the work by participating in an event.
See our events highlighted below:
St Paul's on-the-Hill Community Food Bank serving Ajax and Pickering
Established in 1991 as a temporary outreach program by some members of St. Paul's on-the-Hill Anglican Church, the food bank has outgrown several locations.
Unfortunately, the need has not diminished over the years but the base has broadened. We now draw volunteers from across the local community. Over fifty individuals regularly donate their time and efforts to keep the food bank operating. We are also generously supported by many individuals, businesses and organizations. Without the strong support of the community we could not continue to operate.
The food bank is staffed entirely by volunteers. 100% of funds raised are used to operate the food bank and buy food.
We depend on the generosity of community members who support our mission and vision. You can help too by contributing food or making a donation. Because food collection is uncoordinated, we often end up with too much of one item and not enough of another. You can help us stock our shelves based on current need.
The Somcan Foundation in December of 2016 organized an online auction to help support the needs of St. Paul's Community Food Bank in our community.
With your support, we raised $5200.00 to this very deserving community.
From the bottom of our hearts, THANK YOU!
This wouldn't have been possible without your generous donations and involvement in our auction.

The Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre
Our mission is to provide a support centre where we can care for each other as we live with cancer.
Established in 1997, as a drop in centre, in the comfort of a home like atmosphere, Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre is committed to providing community support for people diagnosed with cancer and their families through individual and group support, information, a resource centre, wellness programs and an ongoing lecture and discussion series. Hearth Place is a support centre where cancer patients and their families can come and share their experiences, find resources and discover new ways to care for themselves and each other.
Caregiver support, grief support and programs for children and teens are available as Hearth Place recognizes the impact cancer has on the extended family and friends. Hearth Place also offers Pediatric Cancer Family support with programs for children and teens with cancer, their siblings, a monthly family support group, fun days, and couples support.
Hearth Place operates without any public funding using private donations and various fundraising events to fund our operations. Did you know you could donate to Hearth Place securely by clicking the “Donate” button to your right? The process is simple, fast, secure and convenient. Your donation goes to work immediately helping out our community. Try it out. Giving doesn’t get any easier than this!

Lubasi Home
Lubasi Home is located in Livingstone, Zambia. Lubasi means family in Silozi.
Lubasi Home provides residential care for orphans and vulnerable children who have no family to look after them. Most of them have been orphaned as a result of the AIDS pandemic, which affects about 30% of adults in Livingstone.
Lubasi admits children aged 5 to 10 years old and aims to care for them until they are able to sustain themselves or are taken into families. The Department of Social Welfare with the help of community organizations selects the children. The only condition for admission is need of care.
The Somcan Foundation back in November of 2014 organized an online auction to help support the needs of Lubasi Home in Zambia.
With your support, we raised $3,921.00 to this very deserving school in their community.

Deohaeko Support Network
Deohaeko Support Network is a group of eleven families that meets regularly to share ideas and plan for ways that our adult sons and daughters might live good, full, and contributing lives at the heart of their local and larger communities. We work toward developing a meaningful life for and with our sons and daughters, who each have a disability. We consistently work toward a secure and welcoming home, a range of relationships with many people, and varied typical and valued ways to contribute to their community as citizens. We do all of this with a combination of family support, interaction with friends and neighbours, and some consistent paid support.
We are a family group… not a service model or agency. Board members are family members or chosen allies/representatives. Each person’s life is very unique and is supported as an individual. Paid Supporters work for each family separately. Families help their sons and daughters hire their own Supporters, plan their own schedules, and remain in control of their lives. Supporters work directly with people in their homes and communities, providing support in the events of their daily lives. Deohaeko operates through board meetings and communication rather than through an office. Coordinators connect with people and families in their homes by invitation and in their communities whether that be in places of paid work, volunteering, recreation or local establishments.
Deohaeko is not a housing option, although we spend good time and energy focusing on the importance of home and what that means to each individual. It is about the capacity of families, both individually and collectively, to be creative and innovative, to have a vision and follow it through.
Deohaeko families intentionally explore, discover and develop abundance within our communities no matter where our son or daughter lives. We all need faith in the presence and possibility of such a community, and a principled, relevant and reliable approach with strategies to keep us there. We appreciate and enjoy life in the present and continue to plan for the future.
